In a joint statement, the Servie a la Famille Chinois du Grand Montreal (Chinese Family Service of Greater Montreal) and the Centre Sino-Quebec de la Rive-Sud said that it is news to them to hear that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) are investigating their organizations for an alleged criminal connection with the Chinese government.
The alleged criminal connection has to do with the allegation that the Chinese Family Service of Greater Montreal and the Centre Sino-Quebec de la Rive-Sud are allowing the Chinese government to use the organizations’ facilities as police stations to jail and interrogate Chinese citizens.
The two organizations deny everything and said that they have no problem working with the RCMP to find the true culprits.
The groups’ joint statement reads as follows, “Following the revelations of the NGO Safeguards Defenders in September 2022, it appears that clandestine Chinese police stations exist in many countries, including Canada…Following these revelations, media representatives questioned the RCMP regarding Chinese Family Service of Greater Montreal and the Centre Sino-Quebec de la Rive-Sud. The RCMP Reportedly indicated that an investigation was underway with respect to them. It was only after being contacted by the media that Chinese Family Services of Greater Montreal and the Centre Sino-Quebec de la Rive-Sud learned with astonishment of the existence of this investigation against them. Both organizations wish to cooperate in this investigation while respecting the exercise of their fundamental rights. They condemn behavior amounting to harassment and intimidation and invite all victims to report such acts.”
It’s understandable why the Chinese Family Services of Greater Montreal and the Centre Sino-Quebec de la Rive-Sud are surprise and confuse by the RCMP’s investigation of them allegedly helping the Chinese government to jail Chinese citizens.
Here, the Chinese Family Services of Greater Montreal has been around since its founding in 1976 by “a group of students, professionals and ecclesiastical personalities” and the Centre Sino-Quebec de la Rive-Sud h as been around since 1990. From 1990 to 1995, Centre Sino-Quebec de la Rive-Sud was a part of the Chinese Family Services of Greater Montreal. In 1996, Centre Sino-Quebec de la Rive-Sud branched off from the Chinese Family Services of Greater Montreal.
Both groups help Asian immigrants find their way around the communities in Montreal. They also have events whereby they introduce the police to the community. Considering the fact that both groups act as a bridge between the Asian immigrant community and the police, a person would question why it is the RCMP believes either group is helping the Chinese government to do the not so cool thing of arresting folks in a country that they have no arresting power in.
For their part, the RCMP isn’t answering the question of what it is that led to them suspecting that the two groups may be moonlighting as criminals for the Chinese government.
All the RCMP is doing is admitting that they are investigating the two groups for allegedly helping the Chinese government to arrest and jail folks.
The Chinese government, of course, is denying all wrongdoing. Due to the Chinese government having set up over 100 illegal police stations in 53 countries, very few folks are paying any mind to the Chinese government’s denial.
One of the things the Chinese Family Services of Greater Montreal and the Sino-Quebec de la Rive-Sud ask of everyone is to not assume that their organizations’ involvement with the Chinese community in Montreal is evidence that they are also involved with the activities of the Chinese government.
“We would like to reiterate the importance of the presumption of innocence. Thus, while the investigation is underway, we invite the public and the media to exercise caution and to watch out for amalgams, especially in the context of the pandemic where the Chinese community has been strongly stigmatized. Finding these organizations guilty in the current factual vacuum risks causing irreparable dame to both organizations,” is what both groups said in their joint statement.
And they’re right. The “birds of a feather, flock together” saying is not always true. Just because two people have the same race, ethnicity, or parents, it does not mean that those two individuals share the same beliefs or behave in a similar manner.
Therefore, the right way to approach this situation is to point the finger at China’s President for Life, Xi Jinping, and his Communists Party bros and gals because they are the ones running around the globe keeping up all kinds of hell! Devils!
